Works are to modernise, with adjustment to section III C.N.R., the S.S. n° 96 “BARESE” – Gravina – Bari stretch, ending at the Toritto–Modugno variant, including the Palo del Colle variant for an extension of around 9.0 km; with a 19 metre paved platform.
The design refers especially to the stretch in the variant to the S.S. 96 between kilometres 105+705 and
114+384.85, as upstream and downstream, State Road 96 has already been modernised to satisfy section III C.N.R.
As well as building the variant of the new SS 96, the existing road will be demolished and the stretches previously occupied by the road will be redeveloped from an urban point of view with an important historical and architectural renovation project for the entire area.
The project is split into two macro parallel and connected jobs, one the result of the other modernisation to satisfy section III CNR of the SS96 in the stretch of the variant – Modugno and the new Palo del Colle road system.
The main works are:
- building two artificial tunnels, ‘Micciola’ and ‘San Nicola’, respectively about 220 and 480 metres long
- a steel viaduct called ‘Lame Strette’ measuring about 240 metres
